Founded by Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick DBE, The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) is dedicated to the protection and conservation of wildlife species and their habitats in Kenya. Best known for their work with orphaned baby elephants and rhinos, the DSWT has successfully hand-raised over 150 infant elephants since its inception.
Today, the majority of elephants are orphaned due to ivory poaching, which is the greatest single threat to African elephants. It is estimated that one elephant is killed every 15 minutes for its tusks; at this rate, they could face extinction in less than 15 years.
The DSWT is a safe haven for wild orphans who have been rescued and are in rehabilitation to return to the wild. Reliant upon a keeper's care for up to ten years, a young elephant requires constant attention: from food to medicine to companionship. Your support will ensure that future generations of these majestic creatures will continue to walk the earth.
